Trying new things

Two months ago I joined Weight Watchers and it’s been a very good experience for me. So far I’ve lost over thirty pounds. Feeling like my goal is possible I'm all pumped up.

So now it’s time to add exercise and I’ve been looking for something I can do with really bad knees. Water aerobics would be perfect but there is not a pool available in my area. Pilates looked like the answer. I knew I wasn’t ready to join a class and stumble through whatever the program is in front of strangers. Like any good American, I took myself to Walmart and bought a Pilates for Beginners DVD.

HA! Pilates might be low impact but apparently it’s an excellent way to spend thirty to forty minutes kicking your own butt. If any of you do it, I’m impressed. I haven’t actually done it yet, just watched the DVD. Gonna try today and so glad no one will be watching.

Keep up the good work! There is a big payoff down the road. Last year I lost 20 lbs and started a modest exercise program. This past month has been physically & emotionally stressful and I'm not sure I would have made without my lifestyle changes.

Thank you guys, I'm really happy to have found something that works this well for me. I realize it's not for everyone, we each need to find the tool that prods us into a lifestyle change.

Yay for you, Gail! Congrats!! I'm trying to lose, too, but my loss is only half of your 30 - way to go!! I hear ya about the lifestyle change - as we get older our body doesn't forgive us for the things we do to it nearly as easily as it does when we were younger, but it would behoove us all to make peace with it since we're pretty much stuck with it. :-)

As for the Pilates, I'm impressed you had the gumption to actually buy the thing - I took one look, laughed, and walked away. :-) I have a treadmill - I know I can walk, sometimes without falling down. hehehe

Have a wonderful weekend!

Way to go with the 30 lbs Gail!! That is outstanding!

You know, people make fun of pilates, but it will kick a$$. It's awesome for core muscle strength training, and for toning the tummy area, so start slow and keep going -- even if you never get beyond the "slow" period. *g*

Good job, babe....I too am a WW, and I reached goal 11/02 after losing 106 lbs; I'm happy to report that 8 years in, I'm STILL a WW, and only 4 lbs over goal. I'm going to be this way for the rest of my life, because I sure as hell don't want the weight back ever again (and if you ever want to experience your weight loss in a unique way, try putting boxes of butter/margarine in a cart at the supermarket equal to your weight loss, or just do 25 of 'em, then imaging them on your body).
